Jon Golnik provides misleading & contradictory statements about his employment history
Jon Golnik provides misleading & contradictory statements about his employment history
For Immediate Release
August 23, 2012-Westford, MA- In a recent debate between Republican Congressional hopefuls, Tom Weaver and Jon Golnik, Mr. Golnik spoke passionately about his leadership capabilities, citing the experience of “running a desk” in the financial industry as proof positive. The problem is that on other occasions Golnik spoke of his experience at AIG as being that of an “entry level position, with nobody above or below me.”
Tom Weaver, a graduate of The U. S. Naval Academy, an Eagle Scout, formal Naval Officer, community activist and current small business owner living in Westford, thinks that Golnik is just trying to distance himself from his derivatives sales responsibilities at AIG, one of the first international financial institutions to take billions of dollars in bailout money. “These large financial corporations are the chief cause of the recent financial meltdown that has visited much economic hardship for so many families in the Third Congressional District,” said Weaver. “It is no wonder he wants to hide the truth – he even removed his former AIG corporate Bio from his website.”
Speaking of hiding the truth, one of Golnik’s stated qualifications for running for office is that he is a small business owner. He stated that he imports clothing for Boston College. Yet, according to a news report, he claimed no income from the business in his prior Ethics Report for 2009 and 2010. At a Harvard RTC presentation, Golnik stated that he quit the business in June 2011 to run for Congress. “Does this mean he made no money from his business in three of the last four years?” “We don’t know,” said Weaver. And there is still a 6 month gap in his history that is not accounted for. “This is a man that says he can help people start and grow small businesses. We really don’t know if he has or can. I know I have and have repeatedly given specifics as to the numerous businesses I have worked with over the years,” said Weaver. “I know I can create jobs and have the track record to prove it,” Weaver stated.
What else did Jon Golnik do from 2000 to 2009, the same period of time that he took himself out of the democratic process and refused to even register to vote? Nobody really knows and Golnik isn’t saying. In fact, every time he is asked about this period of his life he becomes visibly agitated and evasive, displaying his well-known volatile temper. At a recent debate, Weaver recently challenged Golnik to produce tax returns from previous years and Golnik would have none of it. At the time Weaver asked the question, he was holding ten years of his own returns.
According to Weaver, “Leadership skills are not acquired on the job. You either have them or you do not. Leadership ability is a clear necessity for anyone who seeks to represent the people of his district in Congress,” says Weaver. “One has to form alliances in both parties, evaluate common ground, come to an understanding of what is best for the Nation, and then sell that package to the members at large. That takes leadership, experience, truth and temperament – none of which Jon Golnik has been able to exhibit thus far.”
A Navy Veteran and Eagle Scout, Weaver is married with 6 children and resides in Westford, Massachusetts.
